Ecology Camp Counselor

Job Description

Position Summary: 

This eight-week summer position entails planning, coordinating, leading, and teaching nature themed, outdoor day camp programs.  Counselors will lead groups of up to 12 children ages 4-15 with the assistance of Junior Counselors (JCs) through hands-on activities, nature exploration, crafts, and games.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • This position is full-time: must be able to work required hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm from June 5-July 28. (No camp July 3-7)
  • Able to attend training May 30-June 2, or make alternate arrangements with Environmental Educator
  • Implement and lead a variety of activities including nature-based lessons, game, and crafts
  • Lead groups of up to 15 campers throughout Lincoln Memorial Garden’s trails and grounds
  • Assist in set up, maintenance, and storage of program equipment, supplies and facilities

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 17 years of age
  • Have reliable transportation
  • An interest in nature and the outdoors
  • Excellent judgement, reliability, flexibility, and the ability to demonstrate a positive attitude and behavior
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with all staff, volunteers, and campers
  • Basic knowledge of biology and environmental science concepts
  • Able to work outdoors under various weather and environmental conditions (at least 50% of each day will be spent outside)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with children in a camp or outdoor setting
  • Coursework related to education, environmental science, natural sciences, biology, recreation management, or other related fields

 Compensation

            This is a paid, non-exempt, full-time, seasonal position working 40 hours per week.  The position begins June 5th, 2023, and ends July 28th, 2023.  The position pays $13.00 per hour.  There is also paid training running May 30th-June 2nd.
